About Me

"Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it.  Action has magic, grace and power in it."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

About Me

As a bi-ethnic woman of both English and Egyptian heritage who has spent most of my life in the South and Southwestern United States, I am fortunate to have access to and insight into a wide range of human experience. I also understand the discomfort, both internal and external, that a dichotomy of identity can create.

Like most artists, the arc of my life story informs my work. After nearly 30 years as a full-time cardiologist, I retired from medical practice to pursue other passions and opportunities in 2022. Through caring for thousands of individuals, along with my creative work as an award winning author and medical writer, I am skilled at observing and deciphering human nature.

I have been trained in the method of Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) through Harvard University School of Medicine, where I am currently a Fellow in Harvard Macy Institute’s Art Museum-based Health Professions Education program.  VTS uses art as a catalyst for close observation, communication, and critical thinking. Through this work I remain engaged with the medical community as an instructor in arts and humanities at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

I obtained my BFA in Digital Photography from Arizona State University in 2024. I am currently enrolled as an MFA student in Photography at the University of Hartford.

Current Work

My expertise is in the realm of observation.

A connection with the natural world is an integral part of my photographic practice.  I currently live and work in North Texas, where rampant development has created environmental devastation. My photographic work bears witness tothe last remnants of the once vast and life-giving Blackland Prairie surroundingthe Dallas suburbs, reflecting adeep reverence for place and the fragile wildness that remains.

Alongside this, I am developing a body of work centered on horses—creatures with whom I share a long-standing relationship. This work emerges from a space of stillness, attention, and mutual presence. It explores the quiet, often unspoken dialogue between species, and the embodied knowledge that arises through our interactions. My equine images are as much about perception and relationship as they are about the horses themselves, echoing my broader interest in the ways we encounter and interpret the living world.
